Holiday Season — Book by June – August
January – March
The three months cruise lines compete hardest for the year.
Wave Season is the industry's biggest promotional window. Cruise lines stack incentives — reduced deposits, onboard credit, free upgrades, drinks or Wi-Fi included — to lock in bookings for the year ahead. It's the right window to hold 2026 and 2027 cruises before cabin categories thin out.
2026 Alaska
Balcony inventory on May, June, and September sailings goes first. Best booked before spring.
2027 Mediterranean
Peak-summer itineraries with premium suites benefit most from Wave pricing and locked deposits.
European River 2026
Popular ships and cabin categories on the Danube and Rhine sell through Wave — especially Christmas Markets sailings.
Book by October – December
The fixed-date week that leaves the earliest.
Spring Break demand is concentrated into two or three weeks and priced accordingly. Resorts, connecting rooms, and short-haul flights sell out four to six months ahead. Most families who wait until the new year are working from what's left.
All-inclusive Mexico + Caribbean
Cancún, Riviera Maya, and Punta Cana — family-friendly resorts with kids' clubs and connecting rooms.
Short-haul cruises
Three- to five-night sailings out of Florida and California ports that fit inside a school break.
Orlando theme parks
Park tickets, dining reservations, and on-property hotels open a booking window well ahead of the trip.
Book by January – March
The season with the widest range and the tightest inventory.
Summer covers the biggest bookable slice of the year, Europe, Alaska, national parks, and family beach weeks all compete for the same months. Airfare, guides, and premium cabins are the pieces that go first, usually well before the school year ends.
Mediterranean cruise
Peak-season sailings out of Rome, Barcelona, and Athens. Suites and family cabins book earliest.
Alaska cruise + land
Cruise-only weeks plus optional Denali or Kenai extensions. Best availability is spring and September.
European river cruises
Danube, Rhine, Seine, and Douro summer sailings — small ship, limited cabins per week.
National park lodges
In-park lodging at Yellowstone, Glacier, and Zion opens a fixed booking window and closes fast.
Book by June – August
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's weeks book earliest of all.
The holiday windows are short, fixed, and priced at a premium. Multigenerational groups need connecting rooms and larger dinner tables secured well in advance and airfare over Thanksgiving and Christmas is among the least flexible and most expensive of the year.
European Christmas Markets
River cruises through Germany, Austria, and France in late November and December. Small ships, limited departures.
Caribbean holiday weeks
All-inclusive and cruise sailings over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Book before summer for the best rooms.
Ski + mountain weeks
Colorado, Utah, and the Canadian Rockies over the holidays — ski-in/ski-out lodging books nearly a year out.
Warm-weather escapes
Hawaii, Costa Rica, and Mexico for families skipping snow. Peak-season demand, peak-season pricing.
